WORKSHOP PROGRAM AND WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Development workshops are geared towards volunteer leadership (board members and advisors) and staff from nonprofit organizations interested in learning more about securing philanthropic support for their organization. The series is suited for large and small organizations from any discipline with limited development staff.

The world of non-profit fundraising is highly competitive. With the call on donors’ dollars coming from multiple organizations, with a variety of missions, it is more important than ever for non-profits to invest in building a strong development program, that allows them to be sustainable and effective in delivering their mission for the long term. This workshop is structured in four sessions.

DAY 1: Understanding the Basics - introducing attendees to trends in philanthropy today, and to the larger development landscape. You will learn about the guiding principles of fundraising, how to fundraise by the rules, the key components of a comprehensive fundraising program.
DAY 2: Getting your Organization Development Ready - the importance and key elements of a development plan, development planning, building a strong governance framework, and how to build a strong case for support, and the use of story-telling in fundraising.
DAY 3: Understanding Grants and Grantors, Corporate Sponsorships and Partnerships - types of grants and grantors, foundation fundraising, the lifecycle of a grant, building a sustainable relationship with your grantor, writing your proposal, and grant research and resources; Corporate sponsorships and partnerships.
DAY 4: Ethics in Fundraising, Individual Giving, Annual Funds, and Capital Campaigns - understanding the challenges in and motivations for giving, understanding generational giving, the objectives, components, and building blocks of an annual fund program, cultivating relationships for major gifts, and understanding the basics of a capital campaign.
