The Anice and Julian Read Texas Main Street Program Fund

The Texas Main Street Program is one of the oldest and largest programs of its kind in the nation. The program was brought to Texas by Anice Read, a former member of the Texas Historical Commission, who also served as first director of the state Main Street effort. Anice Read also helped found the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission following the discovery of the La Belle shipwreck in 1996. Julian Read, Anice’s husband and a leading public relations professional, was her biggest champion. As a historic preservationist himself, Julian served on the Board of the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission for over 15 years. We thank you for honoring the legacy of Anice and Julian Read with your gift to support the preservation and revitalization of historic downtowns and commercial districts in Texas.
